Necronomicon S/T CD

$10.00

FOR FANS OF: Old One, Coven, Witchcraft, Noctum, Graveyard and early 1970's acid rock, Arthur Brown, Psyche-Doom, late '60's garage rock

If one didn't know better it would be easy to assume that this release was directly from the 1970's, newly re-discovered by some vinyl collector sifting through the endless stacks of all-but-nameless obscurities. However, Necronomicon, hailing from Maceió Alagoas, Brasil, are indeed a current band with a foot deep in the '70's well of dark sonic bliss. Dirty, filthy organ and bass creep from the analogue scum-haze filled background and deep into your psyche as the hypnotically hollow vocals slowly roll in from the distance like a soundtrack to some vintage horror flick locked in the recessed parts of your memory. Recalling Lovecraft's tales of DARK REDEMPTION and EVIL LOVE; Pedro Ivo Araujo, who provides the drums, organ and vocals on the album (and switches to bass and vocals for live shows), along with long-time cohort Lillian Lessa on guitar, conjure up a sound that only can be called "Prog-Doom".

With a style that is uncommon in the doom scene, it's hard to recommend Necronomicon to fans of any specific sub-genre or band, except maybe Old One, that is mined from similar sources... and possibly, in a way of its own, not straying too far from the current Electric Wizard sound. Taking cues from the hippy psyche-rock scene over doom metal; look for influences of Coven, Jefferson Airplane and the filth of the classic Arthur Browns acid rock masterpieces. The spells released here may well be the only protection you have for your trip back to Arkham.
